The AHNS is a society of professional nurses dedicated to the principles of holism. There isn’t a Nurse in the world who ISN’T dedicated to those principles, however, each is in a different stage of awakening in the process of discovery and of applying the principles in her practice. This is clearly evident with a common reaction that takes place when a nurse “finds” the AHNS: “Where have you been? How long have you been here? and What took me so long to find you?” The discovery of AHNS existence then leads to a somewhat frantic involvement that dances on the border of zeal.

We are first of all people who, each in their own way, have come to recognize that to nurse (nurture) our patients, clients, selves and whoever else presents themselves to us for nurturing (paid or otherwise) requires more than education, training, licensing and certifying. There needs to be an understanding of our abilities and talents as agents of healing energies.

We also recognize a need to honor the integrity of other nurse-healers and to foster their abilities to self-direct their own course to holism, As people with an appreciation for the forces that direct our life activity..in both wellness and disease..we are open to all the possible learning experiences that come our way. We invite and welcome them into our lives!

Finally, we keenly recognize and heed the need to be self-caring and self-nurturing individuals: the physician must “heal thyself,” the musician must keep his instrument clean and tuned. The Nurse IS her instrument of healing.
